COMMUNION SUNDAY This morning, we will share communion as a family.

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER Thursday, May 6, 2010 is the 59th Annual Observance of the National Day of Prayer. Like prior years, there will be two events. The traditional event at South Park, with worship and prayer at noon, and an evening service at Lawrence Heights Christian Church from 7:00-8:00 pm. Let’s join together with other congregations in Lawrence and pray for our city, state, country and leaders.

“The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him” Nahum 1:7

OUT OF HIDING WORSHIP EVENT Out of Hiding has never fit in to the typical rock band box. The group was born out of a hunger to express the reality of Jesus through music. Their songs blend alternative rock anthems with honest, hard-hitting lyrics to create a unique and powerful experience. The desire of every Out of Hiding event is to touch the heart of the Creator and build a platform for real life change for all who attend.

We have the privilege to host Out of Hiding, here, at the Mustard Seed Church. April 30 will be a night of impacting worship and a time in the presence of our Lord. Join us at 7:00 pm as we worship the One who created us.

UPCOMING MEN’S EVENT Join the guys Saturday, May 15, for some grilling and frisbee golf. Bring yourself, a frisbee and a friend. More details to come.

SAVE THE DATE! The Kansas Speedway fundraiser is this coming weekend on Saturday and Sunday, May 1st and 2nd. This is the main fundraiser for the youth and children’s ministries and we need your help! Since they require people 18 years and older, most of the high school students can’t help. Please consider helping if your child has ever received a youth scholarship for a retreat or missions trip. Please sign-up in the kiosk today! Talk with Pastor Stan or Allison if you have questions.

MISSION’S LUNCH FUNDRAISER We are having a Mexican lunch today in the Fellowship Hall after church. The cost is on a donations basis (whatever you can give!). Money raised will go toward future youth mission trips. If you signed up to come, we are planning on you attending! Come share a great meal and make a difference at the same time!

SCHOOL’S OUT PARTY! The youth ministry is sponsoring a School’s Out Party on Wednesday, May 19th at Holcom Park for junior high and senior high students. Other youth groups have been invited and will be joining us. Make plans now to attend and invite your friends. More details to follow.

MOTORCYCLE TRIP Colorado is calling your name! And those with motorcycles are invited. May 13-17, a small group of guys will be driving to Colorado for some sightseeing and camping. If Denver, Glenwood and Aspen sound good to you, contact Valek Voronin at 979-9318 or Lawrence Dreyfus at 816-520-5247.

JIM’S PLACE CHANGES After reviewing our operating expenses with the coffee shop, we discovered we are financially going deeper in the hole each week. The original intent was never to make money but simply cover our operating expenses with coffee. Our coffee related costs have gradually gone up over time but we have absorbed the extra expenses plus the addition of fresh fruits to the menu. For months, and even years, Doris Douglass, and more recently Wes Cook, graciously donated their own money and time to bake fresh breakfast breads each Sunday morning to satisfy hungry appetites but they too have felt the effect of rising costs. Our church is growing and changing – so the coffee shop needs to change as well. We will continue to provide fresh coffee, fresh fruit, and baked goods but it has become necessary to begin charging for all items in the coffee shop menu at a modest increase beginning next week. The price of the coffee will remain the same. The cost for breads, sweets or fruits will to up to $.25 each. Again our goal for the ministry to be self sufficient plus show appreciation for the people who are continuing to give so generously of their baking skills. Thank you for your understanding as we make this necessary transition.
