Can Peace Be More Dangerous Than War?–Part I

By • Apr 25th, 2010 • Category: Sermon Audio, Sermon Podcast, Sermon Summary

This is part one of a two part sermon series on finding God given rest for our souls-and God knows we need it!

There is a time for peace and a time for battle: Eccl. 3:8, “a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.” But who decides what the right times are-us or God? David didn’t go into battle with his armies when it was time for war. Scripture makes a point of telling us this.

So while Israel’s army was fighting successfully on foreign soil, King David ends up losing the battle of temptation at home; in a place of “peace.” His adultery marks the spiritual low point of the king’s life, and a turning point in his reign.

So how does a guy who loves God passionately, has everything he ever wanted, fall into this kind of sin? I would like to suggest that David was tired of fighting and took a “vacation” – from God, from God’s will for his life, and from his responsibilities.

Can anyone relate to David? We get tired of life’s daily battles and decide we deserve a break from the pressure. The opposite of pressure is pleasure. Because David decided to just enjoy his success, his emotional guard was down and he was not battle ready.
