Weekly News for May 30, 2010
By editor • May 28th, 2010 • Category: UncategorizedCHURCH WORK DAY This Saturday, June 5, from 8 and to 1 pm, we are having another work day at the church. The work will be done outside. This is a great time to spruce up the church, get to know one another and spend some time in the fresh air. If you have any questions, please see Steve Batten. See you there!
A PLACE TO SERVE Edye Cable has been very generous in giving people rides who otherwise wouldn’t make it to church on their own every Sunday morning. Every once in a while she is unable to do so. We are looking for someone who would be able to be a substitute driver for her. The church van would be available. If you are interested, please see Tatyana in the office.
PROJECTIONISTS NEEDED Have you ever wanted to be in the worship ministry, but you CAN’T SING!? By serving as a projectionist, you CAN lead others in worship. We are in need of individuals willing to serve one Sunday per month projecting lyrics and sermon notes for the congregation. Training is simple. Prior computer skills are helpful. If you are interested, contact Susan King (king@ku.edu).
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL!!! Wildwood Forest is just a few weeks away! June 21-25, from 6-8:30 pm, step deep into the jungle and experience Bible stories, skits, worship, arts and crafts, snacks and much, much more. All those 4 years old through 6th grade are invited for this great time. There is no cost to attend VBS. Pre-register your children today at the kiosk for a wild time at Wildwood Forest!
VBS VOLUNTEERS MEETING Next Sunday, June 6, there will be a meeting for those interested in helping with Vacation Bible School this summer, whether or not you have kids. It will be a short, 30-minute, meeting and will take place in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
YOUTH MISSION TRIP The youth group will be taking a summer mission’s trip to the St. Louis Dream Center July 7-11. The cost is $100 per person. June 6 is the commitment deadline. If you’re interested, please see Pastor Stan or Allison Nichols.
DIVORCE RECOVERY A new 13-week course began Thursday, May 20th, at 6:30pm at the church. This group helps those recovering from the trauma of divorce or separation. The cost of the course is $20. Partial scholarships are available. It’s not too late to join in. Childcare is available for a small fee and must be coordinated with Lynnett Beck at 785-633-1892.
NEW MINISTRY STARTING! As leaders we have made the decision to enter into the video ago and begin to videotape our teachings and worship. There are several reasons for this. We can put video portions of the sermon or worship onto our website and give people who visit, a more clear understanding of who we are. Video DVD’s can become available for those who would like to see as well as hear all the illustrations that are given during a sermon and feel like more of a participant in worship too.
To do this we need at least one person to start and then others, who have camera knowledge and videotaping skills to start a new ministry in the church. The new ministry would fall under the umbrella of Worship so you would need to talk with Pastor Paul if you are interested. He can be contacted at 841-5685 Tuesday-Friday, 9am to 4pm. Is God speaking to you?
PARTNERSHIP CLASS The next Partnership Class is starting in 2 weeks Sunday, June 13, after the morning service in the Fellowship Hall. Come learn about our history, leadership and ministries. Lunch will be provided. If you’re interested in the class, please sign up at the kiosk so we can plan accordingly.
SUMMER ALPHA COURSE The Kihm’s will be hosting a 6 week ALPHA course (Introduction to Christianity) in their home every Wednesday night this summer for Internationals. We encourage American students/young adults to join us too!
Our evenings include dinner. This is where you can HELP BY COOKING A MEAL for about 25 people. The dates are June 9, 16, 23, 30, July 7, 14. Doorstep Ministries will pay for the food. Contact Ann Kihm: akihm@sunflower.com or 785-979-3201. As we offer hospitality and the TRUTH of God’s WORD, lives will be changed!
