People Who Love God–Love People
By Michael • Jun 13th, 2010 • Category: Sermon Audio, Sermon Podcast, Sermon SummaryJohn 15:9–14 (NIV) — 9 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.
Do you see that obedience and friendship with God are intimately connected? If we don’t obey God, it WILL affect our relationship with Him! Because the Father loves us, He wants to teach how to love like He loves. Unfortunately He has to command us to imitate Him or we would never do it.
Let’s be honest, some people are REALLY hard to love! How long does it take to live around someone before you notice flaws in their behavior, personality or doctrine that begins to bother you? The natural response is to try to fix them or withdraw from them.
Even if we sacrificially love people, there is no guarantee that they will become more loveable. But the truth remains, when we love people, we actually love God. Why would God set life up this way? Tune into today to find out what God’s deeper goal for our life is all about.
