OUT OF THE OFFICE Pastor Paul will be out of the office July 11-30 for a conference and vacation. If you have any questions for him, please contact the office at 785-841-5685.

LEO CENTER FOOD DRIVE For the month of July, we have a great opportunity to reach the city of Lawrence. This year many families have been struggling with finding jobs, paying for utilities or finding a meal to feed their children. We can help out in a big way. During July, we are collecting food to donate to the Leo Center. This week, when you stop by the grocery store, pick up a few extra cans and boxes of food. We are blessed and now is our chance to bless others. All donated food can be placed in the trailer in the lobby.

SENIOR FELLOWSHIP The Senior Fellowship (60+) will not meet in July and August but will begin again in September.

SERMONS TO GO Getting the sermon has never been easier! The newest addition to our media distribution is the ability to subscribe to the MSC Sermon or Worship podcast within iTunes. Instructions on subscribing to the podcasts are available on the church website under the Sermons or Worship page.

MORNING GLORY Do you believe that prayer makes a difference? If so, consider joining our pre-service prayer time at 9:00 am in the Prayer Room. If we desire to experience more of God’s glory during our Sunday service, we need to begin by committing ourselves to pray. Jesus said, “My house will be called a house of prayer.” Come and be a part of our prayer group, “Morning Glory,” and watch your prayers made a difference!

LOOKING FOR DRIVERS More than 70 new international students will be arriving at Kansas City Airport the first week of August. We need 20 families or individuals who will welcome them at the airport. Families will be matched up with students in the next week….so please respond quickly, if you can help. Coordinator is Lanny Maddux 785-218-6784 or lannym@ku.edu or you can contact Ann Kihm 979-3201 or akihm@sunflower.com. Come to the table in the LOBBY AFTER CHURCH for more information.

CHILDREN’S CHURCH Grade school children that are going into the 1st and 4th grade in the Fall should promote to the next children’s church level (either 1st-3rd grade class or 4th-6th grade class) this summer. There is not one designated Sunday that this occurs because some children are ready to promote before others; we encourage the promotion to occur sometime before the school year begins but leave the timing to the parent’s discretion.
Children in the nursery program promote on a quarterly basis based on age and parents will be notified by Kara Stegman, the nursery coordinator, when that occurs.

MORTGAGE PAYOFF CHALLENGE God has impressed upon the Elder’s hearts for our church to become debt-free and stay debt-free. By doing so, finances will be freed up for future ministry possibilities. As Elders, we are actively seeking God to show us which future ministry opportunities we should invest in.
Presently we hold a mortgage of $135,000 which will be paid off over the next 5 years if nothing changes. Our monthly payment is $2800. We believe God has given us an exciting challenge to enable us to retire the debt before the end of 2010. The challenge extends to November 21.
Take this challenge personally to the Lord in prayer and ask Him how He wants you to participate. This is a faith agreement between you and God. The church is kicking off this faith challenge by paying off 10% from our savings fund. Set aside the money you decide to give. Do not give it to the church yet! Anything you purpose to give should be in addition to your regular giving and tithing. Do not take this from your regular giving or tithe.
November 21 will be the Sunday we ask everyone to bring in what they’ve been setting aside. The following Sunday we’ll announce the results of our faith challenge. For more information, please see the brochure in the information center.
