Hearing God’s Voice : How Does He Speak to Us?

By • Feb 12th, 2012 • Category: Sermon Audio, Sermon Podcast, Sermon Summary

If God wants to speak to us and have a real, live, ongoing relationship with us, how does speak to us? How can we hear His voice. It is rarely an audible voice. So what does it mean when He tells us to follow His voice (Jn. 10:3-5). Hearing God’s voice is made possible when we are spiritually reborn by God’s Spirit. Our spirit can now “hear” God’s Spirit speaking to us. How does the Spirit speak to us?

The Holy Spirit speaks to us in our heart. It can be in the form of a scripture coming to mind, thoughts that we realize are not our own, impressions, intuitions and visual images in our mind. Since we have our own thoughts, impressions, intuitions and images, how can we tell if something is form God? Being able to tell the difference is what we call discernment. The first way to discern the difference is the Bible. God’s voice will not contradict the Bible. If what we hear does contradict the Bible, it is not from God. But there are other ways as well. This message will help you discern the other ways we can know if something is from God.

As you attempt to learn to hear God’s voice, remember that to become good at anything you have to practice. Not only will you need to practice, but learning also involves making mistakes. You will make mistakes. But don’t give up. God wants you to get better and better at hearing His voice and obeying Him. Keep practicing!
